408 is the sum of eight consecutive primes

By astephens

As the longest serving member of the 408 team the burden falls upon me to broadcast the sad news that we have spent our final day in Room 408. We will announce soon what is to become of Room 408 online, but for now we simply wish to pause in silent remembrance at the end of a wonderful era. Thanks to James, Ivona, Kristian, Simon, Ranjan, Mel, Zac, and Chun-Hsu.

That’s so cool that your room number has a funky nerdy interpretation like being “the sum of eight consecutive primes”. I’m in room 314. I don’t know what to make of it. Any ideas?

ps. Sorry about you having to leave

  2. Dave Bacon Says:

314 is nontotient. It also reminds me of pi.

  3. HP45 Says:

Sort 314 in descending order and subtract 314 in descending order from it

    431 – 134 = 297

    repeat

    972 – 279 = 693

Now, do the same with 408

    840 – 048 = 792

    repeat

    972 – 279 = 693

    Now,

    963 – 369 = 594

    954 – 459 = 495

    it converged!

    lads,
i never knew this blog existed – what a cool idea. And damn, the end of the room 408 era? You know, I still have the key…but without the old crew, its no longer a home away from home.

And how dare they move my whiteboard?!?!?!
